Situated in the beautiful Lloyd Elsmore Park, the Howick Historical Village is our region’s top visitor attraction.
A wonderful family experience, here you can step back in time and discover the way of life in the fencible settlement of Howick during the mid to late 1800s.
This historic village has been lovingly created with original buildings from the region being re-located to this site. Here village life is re-created for all to experience. You get a true taste of the daily tasks of our early European settlers, as well as how they spent their leisure time. Visit the church, the tiny houses, the school house, and the sod cottages. Hard to imagine large families living in such small homes.
Visitors can explore the different buildings from the school house to the church. With a water mill, a small lake, very friendly chooks.
Specific tours and activities can be arranged. School holiday workshops keep those young minds busy. Check their website for current and upcoming events/activities.
This is a wonderful experience. Don’t miss it.
Café and gift shop on site.

Eastern Beach To Little Bucklands
The Bucklands Beach peninsular is pretty spectacular with incredible views, and great swimming.
This walk is all along the beach/coastline so can only be done at low tide – so do time it well so you can enjoy it fully. You will see some really interesting geological formations from volcanic activity and strata in the cliffs, as well as the unfortunate results of weather activity and erosion to private property.
