Halfmoon Bay Pigeon Mountain Loop
Distance:
7.4 kms
Approximate time: 2.5 hours
Date: 25/09/2021
Author: David Mallowes
Local walk along the coast from Halfmoon Bay Marina to Wakaaranga Creek Reserve then through Pigeon Mountain Wetlands Walk to Ohuriarangi Pigeon Mountain – then back to the start.
There is something for everyone – water views and perhaps some paddling, fancy houses, wetlands and our local maunga where you get a great view.
Time your walk to coincide with the tides – best when at least half way in then you can explore. It is well worth popping down several short flights of stairs to secluded coastal platforms beneath Pohutakawa trees.
A bit of hill walking and some roads to cross.

Enjoy a bite and a drink at one of the eateries at the Halfmoon Bay Marina and enjoy the view across the boats to Rangitoto.
Things to do nearby:
If you are keen to walk further you can join the Pakuranga Rotary Walkway at Waakaranga Creek Reserve, or from the Marina end you can continue through to Little Bucklands Beach along the boardwalk behind the boatyard.
