New Zealand is a breathtaking country in the Southwestern Pacific Ocean, comprised of two main landmasses – North and South Island with smaller islands close by. Due to its remote location it was one of the last islands to become inhabited. The Maori people were first to settle here, followed by the British Empire, and both have had strong influences on the multi-cultured country it has become today. The country’s landscape is scattered with sharp mountain peaks, such as the Southern Alps, and rolling farm land surrounded by sandy beaches and rugged coastlines. New Zealand’s capital city is Wellington, home to the country’s parliament, with its most populous city being Auckland, widely known as the City of Sails.
