a family day out
Beaches, playgrounds and a bit of walking close to home
Discover East Auckland Together
There are so many locations to stop and relax with space for children to run around and get plenty of fresh air and exercise. Rain or shine Paradice Entertainment in Botany has a variety of family fun, with Rush Sim Racing also at this location. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants as well as parks and beaches for a fantastic family picnic.
Beaches are perfect playgrounds for the whole family. The whole region has very safe swimming beaches and a kayak or body board can be a lot of fun. Our beaches are very popular for all water sports and many a world champion sailor and wind surfer has trained in these waters.
Good family walking and cycling can be enjoyed along the Pakuranga Rotary, the Cascades, and the Beachlands Shared Cycle/Walkways. The Snakes and Ladders playground is very popular with the younger crowd with ladders up and slides down. Lloyd Elsmore Park has a couple of areas with playground equipment as well as lots of green space to run around. Barry Curtis Park has plenty of space as well, with paths for cycling and walking, playgrounds, and you may find some interesting artworks as well.
The wharf at Maraetai is a favourite with local children. Enjoy a decent bush walk through Hunua and visit the Hunua Falls, or a less strenuous walk through the indigenous trees at Murphy’s Bush.
We have amazing regional parks with Mangemangeroa, Omana, Duder and Waikawa all offering different experiences, but they are all well worth visiting.
